Meet the Publisher: Alan Stokes
Northland, Auckland, Waikato, Coromandel, Bay of Plenty, Rotorua, Taupo
![]() Alan says that, at an early age he developed an eye for New Zealand’s natural beauty. He has lived all around New Zealand, and knows it really well. After traveling internationally for over 20 years he came to understand the uniqueness of this country and the unique tourist possibilities it presents as a highly marketable and desirable destination.
What’s more, no amount of globalisation can replicate our industry – it can’t be re-manufactured, re-created or relocated to Asia or anywhere else in the world for that matter! To get it, tourists must come here – and they do.
One might think that Alan’s career before Tourist Times might have been as a philosopher. But it wasn’t – he started out in international banking, moved through the import/export industries and into shipping. Then, in 1995, he established his own successful international freight & logistics company based in Auckland. More recently, he was presented with the opportunity to take on the upper North Island edition of Tourist Times and, drawing on his marketing and business background, is enthusiastically ensconced in the re-launch of both the brand and that edition of Tourist Times. The romance of filling huge ships with containers has been joined by his desire to fill all parts of the upper North Island with tourists!
